"STITCH MAP"

Here it is the end of the first month of 2016 already.  Today, I updated my Ravelry queue with a whole bunch of projects I've had bookmarked in various magazines and in my files.  Boy, have I got a lot to do!

This one is called "Elland" by JC Briar.  It features a Chinese lace design that is really beautiful.  The pattern has written instructions, a chart, and something new:  A "Stitch Map" (see her website Stitch-Maps.com for more information and more maps, too.  Also, there is an article in "Creative Knitting", Winter 2014.)  Following the stitch map you can see each row and column of the lace pattern in 'real time'.  In other words, it's not in a grid form like the regular charts we're used to.  Where the pattern curves, the map curves, showing exactly where you are knitting now and where you are going.  What an amazing concept.  I think this may be another revolutionary step in the world of knitting.  I'm looking forward to trying it out on this cowl.
